Participants

After another long day in the field, trip participants give a hearty thanks to Dr. Roy Shlemon for his generosity in funding the expedition, and his interest in ecogeomorphology. From left to right, the trip included: Peter Moyle, Dan Nover, Carson Jeffres, Rob Lusardi, Robyn Suddeth, Gerard Carmona, Jacob Katz, Christina Connell, Sarah Gatzke, Jeff Mount, John Durand, and Josh Viers.

Jeffrey Mount

   •

Jeffrey Mount is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Geology. He also holds the Shlemon Chair in Applied Geosciences, is a former member of the State Reclamation Board, served on the National Research Council Panel on the Klamath River and is a recent recipient of the 2005 Distinguished Scholarly Public Service Award, which recognizes his contributions on issues of public concern such as flood risk, watershed management, and river restoration. He is the author of "California Rivers and Streams", and the proud owner of a small plastic boat.

Peter Moyle

   •

Peter Moyle is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology. He is the author or co-author of more than 170 publications, including the definitive Inland Fishes of California (2002). He has served on numerous advisory bodies, including the Ecosystem Restoration Program Science Board of the California Bay-Delta Authority and the National Research Council Panel on the Klamath River.

Gerard Carmona

   •

Gerard Carmona is a student in the Ecology Graduate Group at the University of California, Davis. His interests include fisheries and freshwater ecology.

Christina Connell

   •

Christina Connell is in the Hydrologic Sciences Graduate Group at UC Davis studying under Dr. Jay Lund. She recently completed her Master's Degree in Hydrologic Sciences and is currently pursuing a PhD. Her research interests include water resource management and groundwater hydrology.

John Durand

   •

Sarah Gatzke

   •

Sarah Gatzke is a graduate student in the Hydrologic Sciences Graduate Group. Her research interests include surface water modeling with a focus on sediment and pesticide transport.

Carson Jeffres

   •

Carson Jeffres is a staff research associate for the UC Davis Center for Watershed Sciences. His research interests are utilization of restored habitats by juvenile salmonids. He is currently working in the Shasta River watershed.

Jacob Katz

   •

Robert Lusardi

   •

Robert Lusardi is a graduate student under Drs. Peter Moyle and Jeffrey Mount and works at the Center for Watershed Sciences. His research focuses on the contribution of aquatic macrophytes to benthic macroinvertebrate abundance and diversity with implications for salmonid feeding and habitat preference.

Daniel Nover

   •

Daniel Nover is a graduate student working in the Environmental Dynamics Laboratory at UC Davis studying under Dr. Geoffrey Schladow. His research is currently focused on the impact of fine particulates on ecosystem health in lakes and reservoirs.

Robyn Suddeth

   •

Robyn Suddeth is pursuing a masters in Geography and a PhD in Hydrologic Sciences. Research interests include water resource management and stream restoration, with current research focused on levee policies in the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta.

Joshua Viers

   •

Dr. Joshua Viers is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Department of Environmental Science & Policy, and holds research faculty affiliations with the Center for Watershed Sciences and the Geography Graduate Group. Using advanced techniques in geospatial analysis, he conducts applied research on watersheds in California, South Africa, and New Zealand. Other research interests include Mediterranean-montane ecosystems, sustainable viticulture, and biological conservation.
