Site 09 - Bad Jokes Island
Physical Site Description- August 17 and 18
Sampling and Camping spot on a mid-channel island with a backwater slough on the north side. The grain size ranges from cobble to sand with a sizable deposit of fine sand on the down river tip of the island. The vegetation consists of immature Willows, Cottonwoods, and grasses. The vegetation on the sides of the main Kobuk channel consists of immature deciduous trees and shrubbery along with mature Spruce trees. Seines were run in the backwaters and north channel. Fish size, species, and abundance were recorded.
The site consists of a couple of islands. The islands appear to be point bar deposits which have been divided by overflow channels. The point bar is aggrading in a southwesterly direction as the main flow of the Kobuk is focused in the southern meander channel.
